A few of our favourite locals. In peak holiday times, it is advisable to book your suppers out far in advance, several weeks even... at the most popular places; Hoste Arms, White Horse etc.
-
The renowned classic pub and restaurant in Burnham Market. Popular for good reason, book in advance! Does a good breakfast and delicious cream tea too. Lovely garden in the back, for eating and tables for drinking and people watching in the front.
-
This hotel has recently had a complete refurbishment and is even better than before. Calm, relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. The decor is new and a bit different from the standard gastro pub look. I like it.
-
Another 'Fying Kiwi" renovation, great addition to Brancaster. Most welcome!
-
Just 2 miles down the road, this is great for breakfasts and Sunday roasts in particular. But has good fresh, homemade food all the time. Only open for supper occasionally
-
This is just at the entrance to Holkham beach, so is a great place to retire to for a drink after a long walk, child friendly too. Food also very good and the design is Victorian Anglo Indian, very lush and quite special. Book for evenings and weekends.
-
Burnham Market. Handmade Norfolk ice cream, home baked scones, light lunches...
-
Fabulous views from the restaurant in Brancaster Staithe, must book in advance, very popular. Good stop for a drink on a coastal walk, as it is right off the path.
-
This old favorite in Thornham retains a real smugglers rest feeling. It is in a great spot to combine walking with a meal. In administation at the moment, the rumour mill says that it has been bought by the Marco Pierre White, Frankie Dettori group...)
-
Sedgeford, just a few miles inland from Brancaster, but away from the tourist path. This is a real pub with real ales and real pub food. It is unusual for the coastal area and very popular with locals.
-
Yes, this is the pub you remember from when you were a teenager. It is still popular with the teenage crew, but also has it's own microbrewery and a good play area in the beer garden. Pizza oven and chips! Good for place a family on a sunny evening.
-
Burnham Market. Homemade cakes, specialty coffees, sandwiches etc. Good for a respite from either wintry weather or summer crowds!
-
Stanhoe. This is a very handy local pub (more restaurant then pub really) by a sweet duckpond in a pretty village in between Big Sky Barn and Burnham Market. It has been renovated recently and looks good. Gastro Pub menu.
-
Is this the perfect country pub? I think so. Locals agree and it is very hard to get a table here without a booking. Great local produce, good beer, well chosen wines, good atmosphere. Delicious 'curry and a pint' for £10 on Mondays.
-
This feels very authentic, pub grub, and is both across the street from a beautiful village green and has a big beer garden in the back. Very cosy in the winter too. A real must try is 'Nelson's Blood' a house speciality, lethal but delicious.
-
Gorgeous old building in Holt. Cafe and Deli... Always very busy and bustling, really great cakes and lovely atmosphere at tea time. They do all meals, but I especially like breakfast there, terrific! Hugely child friendly too.
-
01328 738866, Chinese takeaway by the garage in Burnham Market. All the basic takeaway favourites, not bad at all.
-
In pretty Ringstead a few miles down the road from Big Sky Barn. Great place for a relaxing drink or snack. Walled beer garden. Near the great Peddars Way walking and the Courtyard Farm walking.
-
This is a classic Michelin Star restaurant and it has one! Formal and lots of foie gras. In Old Hunstanton, so very handy and apparently rich and delicious food.
-
Fish and Chip Van, Monday: The Green Burnham Market 5-7pm, then opposite Tourist Info Brancaster Staithe 7.15-8pm Tuesday: Next to Orange Tree Pub Thornham: 4.30pm onwards, Wednesday: by Church, Broad Lane Brancaster: 5-7pm. Happy to do private parties.
-
I think these are the best around (they fry new potatoes), and you really can't beat the seafront at Wells next the Sea for old fashioned seaside holiday atmosphere.
-
01485 518656, call to order your fresh fish and chips and collect, only 2 miles down the road.
-
This is in Walsingham and is a part of the farm shops complex. It has a brilliant fish/free range chicken and chips counter, all cooked to order and a quirky restaurant in another room serving only local produce, including beer and cider. Very individual
-
Leatheringsett. Flying Kiwi again... Lovely pub renovation. Good food, large play area and outside seating.
-
Local chef Galton Blackiston is gaining a national reputation, and has a Michelin Star* . Morston Hall is a formal place in a beautiful spot. If you don't fancy the trip, try his cookbooks in the kitchen at Big Sky Barn!
-
Seasonal cafe on the Wiveton Hall Estate after Blakeney on coast road. Totally beautiful setting, very seasonal food. Breakfast lunch and tea (also children's menu). Open 10am-8pm Shop with unique Bridgewater pottery. Worth the trip. Love, love it!
-
In Kings Lynn, combine with a visit to a show at the Corn Exchange, or a film at the Arts Centre. A real gem of a find in Kings Lynn, which is really short of good eating places. Other options are the fairly decent Prezzo or Nandos, Pizza Express...
-
I think this is the best local Chinese takeaway. It is in East Rudham, so is a 20 minute trek, but is worth a detour if you are coming past.
-
Typical Indian restaurant in Hunstanton. Handy for a takeaway.
-
I think this is a bit better than the Hunstanton Indian take away, but is a longer drive unless you are passing through Fakenham. See the link for a sample menu.
-
Good Indian restaurant in Holt. Seems to be mostly used as a take away.
